Canon: The Untamed
Canon Point: Episode 31, just before leaving Carp Tower for Qiongqi Path
Age: 19-21, approximately
History: wiki link (technically, the wiki link is for the novel, but Jin Zixuan's role doesn't change much between the two sources.)
Personality:
Jin Zixuan is known for being arrogant, and vain. He is the ultimate rich boy, heir to the throne of the Jin sect. When we first meet him, he and his entourage buy out an entire inn just because he doesn't want to share the space with anyone else. Wei Wuxian famously refers to him as a "peacock," more interested in his own pride and appearance than in respecting the feelings of those around him. There is good reason for his vanity: He is considered the third most handsome young man in the cultivating world. However, he does show respect to the disciples of the Jin Sect, standing up to Wen Chao when he tried to use his fellow Jin disciple Mianmian as bait for the Tortoise of Slaughter. Later, during the Sunshot Campaign, he assumed that one of his disciples had been making him soup every day, and insulted Jiang Yanli for trying to take credit away from her, not realizing that Yanli was actually the one making the soup.
Though he is arrogant, Zixuan also knows when it is important to repay his debts. Zixuan and Wei Wuxian had previously come to blows in Cloud Recesses, when he admitted to his aversion towards his arranged betrothal to Jiang Yanli, Wei Wuxian's adoptive sister. However, once Wei Wuxian stepped up to defend Mianmian from Wen Chao's attempt to use her as bait, JinZixuan had the presence of mind to return the favor. Not only did he see Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian's adoptive brother, to safety once they escaped the cave, but also returned days later with reinforcements from Lanling to rescue Wei Wuxian as well. Of course, once Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were safely out of the cave, Zixuan didn't stick around any longer than he had to, preferring to return to Lanling and convince his father to take action against the Wen clan for their mistreatment of the other clans' disciples.
At first, Zixuan detested the idea of his arranged marriage to Jiang Yanli, outwardly stating that he didn't find her attractive and had no interest in marrying her. He was glad to have the betrothal called off, following his fight with Wei Wuxian at Cloud Recesses. However, over time, his feelings towards Yanli began to change, and he developed romantic feelings for her after all. He was too shy to put voice to them, though, instead using excuses like saying his mother invited her to come to the Wild Hunt, rather than admitting he wanted her to come himself. When he finally did admit to it, in front of a crowd of onlookers, no less, he became so overcome with embarrassment that he just stormed out mid-sentence.
In the novel, when the time came to finally confess his feelings, he hired writers to compose his confession, though in the end he didn't end up using any of it. In the show, he confesses his love by trying to make Yanli as comfortable as he can in Lanling, saying he will build her a Lotus Pier to remind her of her home. Yanli, who had harbored feelings for Zixuan the whole time, despite his initial rejection of her, finally agreed to marry him after all.
Zixuan, being the sole legitimate child of his father, Sect Leader Jin Guangshan, and therefore the heir to the Jin Sect, had a lot of pressure put on him to behave well and make a good impression. This is not shown in the show, but he often was forced to act as mediator between his father and his mother, who would fight constantly (probably because Jin Guangshan kept sleeping with other women). He never lets any of this drama show through to the public, however, and always carries himself with poise and confidence. He is protective of those who serve under him, and doesn't mind showing off in front of a crowd.
By the time he is being pulled from, Zixuan's arrogance has been tempered somewhat, largely thanks to Yanli's influence. Though he does not get along with Wei Wuxian, he knows that he is important to Yanli, and so makes concessions to allow her to visit him in exile. Yanli even invites Wei Wuxian to choose a courtesy name for their firstborn child, which I imagine Zixuan would have had to agree to as well. But then, there is very little Zixuan wouldn't do for Yanli.
Zixuan in his younger days had a tendency to let others do his talking for him whenever possible. Often, it was Mianmian who stepped in to be the more diplomatic presence and soothe the rising tension that came from Zixuan's arrogant behavior. Other times, it was his cousin Jin Zixun who would act as a hype man, defending Zixuan's honor, even though nobody was really calling it into question. Jin Zixun escalated tension between the Jin sect heir and Wei Wuxian, without prompting from Zixuan himself. Part of this was due to Zixuan's half brother, Jin Guangyao, manipulating events from behind the scenes. He arranged for Zixun to become cursed, which led him to arrange an ambush for Wei Wuxian, whom he believed to be the source of the curse. Upon hearing of this, Zixuan rushed to the scene, wanting to diffuse the situation and promote peace between their families, not for his own sake, but for Yanli's. Unfortunately, this too was part of Jin Guangyao's designs, and unbeknownst to Zixuan he was actually heading to his own death.
Abilities & Skills:
Golden Core Cultivation
By cultivating the spiritual energy of his so-called Golden Core, Zixuan gains the following abilities:
Martial Techniques
Jin Zixuan, like all cultivators, is trained in the arts of both sword fighting and archery. He has led soldiers in battle, as well as fought monsters during "night hunts."
Warfare
Through his experience leading troops during the Sunshot Campaign against the Wen clan, Jin Zixuan grew experienced in coming up with strategies and tactics to plan battles and lead soldiers. He is trained to think about the logistics of fighting a war, keeping armies fed and housed as they travel throughout the countryside.
Diplomacy
Jin Zixuan has been raised his whole life in preparation for taking over for his father as the leader of the Lanling Jin Sect. He has presumably had lessons in how to conduct himself during formal occasions, and how to solve disputes amongst lower ranking members of the clan. This can lead to him having a bit of a spoiled, standoffish attitude, keeping himself composed and proper at all costs.
Inventory/Companions:
• Qiankun pouch* (see above) containing:
• Several gold and silver nuggets to be used as currency
• A bow and quiver of arrows
• Suihua (his sword)
*As the pouch will cease being magical upon entrance to the game, it will immediately spill out all the contents that are too big to physically fit in a bag that size.
Choice: monster (harpy)
Reason: In canon, people who dislike Jin Zixuan call him a "peacock." It's an apt description, when you look at his arrogance and flair for showing off. And yet, for all his cockiness, he's not all that much of a star player, power-wise. He talks a big game, but really he's just a fancy chicken. He's possessive and territorial, and always believes he knows better than anyone else what is good for him.

Abilities & Skills:
Golden Core Cultivation
By cultivating the spiritual energy of his so-called Golden Core, Zixuan gains the following abilities:
- Enhanced healing/vitality - He can heal faster than a mediocre human, and live much longer (assuming nothing kills him first).
- Enhanced strength/speed/reflexes - He can use this, coupled with his martial arts training, to leap long distances through the air (think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), dodge sword attacks, and lift grown men off the ground.
- Spiritual cleansing - Cultivators use their abilities to put evil spirits and ghosts to rest.
- Special sword techniques - Zixuan can use his sword to send out shockwaves of spiritual energy, and also to fly long distances through the air by standing on it like a surfboard.
- Talismans - Trained cultivators can create talismans out of small pieces of paper with writing on them that create certain effects, such as starting a fire, calming a raging zombie, or warding away evil spirits.
- Qiankun pouch - Basically a bag of holding. A small pouch which is charmed to be able to fit larger items inside. Nothing living can go in the pouch.
