[She's all smiles but there's definitely a shy pause as she starts.]
I wonder, since we weren't married yet for you, would you like us to start again from where you remember? There aren't many left from our world, but we could have a small wedding here when you're ready,
[ The message is unexpected, but not unwelcome. He is surprised, but it's a good surprise. ]
Lady Jiang-- [ He pauses, corrects himself with a soft smile. ] ...A-Li.
Nothing would make me happier. I feel like I am a step behind you at all times. Being able to hold a wedding here would go a long way towards remedying that feeling.
Anywhere at all. I'm sure my brothers weren't happy, but I registered for the sake of having better access to this world. So it's very easy for me to travel between cities.
[And all without using public transport. Which she tried... and hated.]
[ Tea and food and company sounds like just the right kind of support. ]
The process takes time. I must first educate myself, before I obtain a probationary permit, and practice driving alongside a licensed driver for a period of several months. But once that is done... If you would accompany me to pick out a car you like?
[ Driving Yanli around is just as important as driving himself around, so he wants the car he picks to be to her preference, too. ]
You're very talented though. And clever. I have no doubts you'll learn all you need before long. [A car she'd like though?] I'll be happy with anything we both like but I'd be glad to join you when the time comes.
[Really, her eyes will be on him a lot of the time whenever they're in the car. Just admiring the love of her life.]
[ He allows himself a giddy smile, safe in the knowledge that only Yanli will see it. ]
Good. I will do my best to learn quickly. In the meantime, I hear De Chima is beautiful this time of year. Perhaps you will allow me to take you to dinner?
Oh. Yes, I would like that. What would you like to do? I could show you around one of the cities. I've become quite familiar with them through my assigned employment.
[ Going door to door selling cologne. Not what he would have chosen for himself to do, but a fair enough way to pass the time, when there's nothing more pressing going on. ]
I would like that as well. It would be interesting to see Suihua wielded by another.
[ Surely Jin Ling would have received the same martial instruction as Jin Zixuan himself received, growing up in the Lanling Jin. If perhaps with some Yunmeng Jiang influence courtesy of his mother's brother. ]
[ Sometimes he can let his excitement show for something other than
Fairy. He's sure his father is probably better with the sword than he is,
he'd always been better at archery but hopefully he'd be good enough to
impress. ]
[ Jin Ling had been hearing about this Christmas thing for a while and so much of it seems silly. He’d researched though and he’d found a small tradition that he related to somehow. So he’s awake early and in their kitchen.
He’d gotten little cakes for each of them and well, he read something about giving apples and that made sense and so there’s one for him to give his father when he comes to the kitchen.
He’s settled with a cup of coffee, idly petting Fairy. ]
[ Jin Zixuan had done some research of his own, though his research mainly consisted of asking the imPort network to explain things to him, which meant he only got a smattering of relevant replies and mostly a mishmash of personal opinions and experiences. Not enough to actually tell him how he was supposed to practice the traditions of this holiday. There was one thing he knew, though, and that was Christmas was about teaching children generosity and charity, celebrating the hope they represent for the future, and rewarding them for good behavior by buying them gifts.
Jin Ling is a teenager, not a child, and his behavior has been... Well, Jin Zixuan doesn't have much to compare it to to know whether he's been particularly good or not, but he'd bought Jin Ling some expensive gifts all the same.
When he awakens on December 25th, he doesn't even really remember what day it is at first, simply goes about his morning routine as usual. It's not until he walks into the kitchen and finds Jin Ling sitting there already that he stops and realizes that it's Christmas morning. ]
[ In truth, Jin Ling hates coffee but he'd found he liked the smell and the energy so he's mid sip when he notices Jin Zixuan and he smiles a little despite himself. His walls had all but completely come down when it came to his father. It'd been quick work but he'd wanted to know him for so long that once he was there it's hard to try and keep a safe distance even after his mother had left this place and he's all the more terrified of losing Jin Zixuan too. ]
Apparently, people are supposed to be up early on Christmas.
[ Or something... he pushes his cup away and draws his hand away from Fairy who huffs at him for it. ]
[ That was one part of the traditions that he had apparently overlooked. He nods absently, and sets to making himself a cup of tea. He may have adapted to many of this world's customs and practices, but he still found that coffee was too bitter for him, and adding sugar and cream just made it too sweet. There was no finding a happy medium with the drink, so he sticks to tea.
Once he has the tea, he settles in across the table from Jin Ling. ]
You did? I hope I haven't kept you waiting long...
[ There's certainly a lot of things Jin Ling didn't know. He probably knew far less than his father did really but all the same. He gets the idea that a part of the holiday is being with people you care about and so this is as good a start as anything. ]
Not really.
[ Jin Ling shrugs noncommittally and he pushes one of the Christmasy looking cakes toward Jin Zixuan, it's a breakfast cake of sorts one that would pair well with coffee but who knows how it would go with tea. ]
[ They're still settling into a comfortable rhythm between them, allowing them to coexist in this new space they've carved out for themselves in this odd world. It's a shaky road, but Jin Zixuan wants nothing more than to walk it.
He takes the cake and takes a bite of it, chewing thoughtfully. ]
Mm. That's good! Very sweet.
[ Maybe a little too sweet for his tastes, but he resolutely takes another bite, chewing and swallowing before setting the cake down. ]
I'm glad you reminded me of the holiday. Your gift ought to be getting delivered today.

In that case, would you like to have dinner with me one night? We can explore the city and find somewhere interesting.

[ He would accompany her anywhere, but going to dinner would be one of the better places he could accompany her. ]
Which city would you care to explore?

[ He just needs to find an online driver's ed class, because there's no way he's sitting through a class with a bunch of local teenagers. ]

Anything that I can do to help, please tell me. Even if it's just company. [She'll make him tea and food to help him study.]

[She's also just not busy. And, he's not wrong. She would very much like to spend time with him.]

Good! Then I will come by the house this evening and take you out.

[Maybe one of those 'summer dresses' that some of the locals have been trying to sell her.]

[ Even if it will take time for him to get used to the modern styles of this world. ]
